ClassyPlants is a plant care resource built on one simple idea: houseplant advice should come from real experience, not theory.
The site was founded by Scarlett Wells, a plant enthusiast who started ClassyPlants after spending seven years learning sometimes the hard way how to keep indoor plants alive in ordinary homes with ordinary light, busy schedules, and the occasional forgotten watering. What began as a personal blog in 2020 has grown into a trusted library of care guides used by thousands of plant parents every month.
Who Writes the Guides
Every article on ClassyPlants is researched, written, and updated by Scarlett Wells. The guides are based on three things:
1. Direct Hands-On Experience: Scarlett has personally grown, propagated, and troubleshooted over 60 houseplant species in real indoor conditions not greenhouses, not studio setups, but actual living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms with the same imperfect light and humidity most people deal with. If a guide says a snake plant can survive three weeks without water in winter, it’s because she’s tested it. If she warns against a specific soil mix, it’s because she’s rotted roots with it.
2. Research-Backed Methods: Every care recommendation is cross-referenced with trusted sources: university extension programs (Cornell, UC Davis, Clemson), the ASPCA toxic plant database for pet safety claims, and peer-reviewed horticultural studies. We don’t repeat myths. If the NASA Clean Air Study is cited, we include the honest context about what it actually proved in sealed chambers versus real homes.
3. Real-Home Testing: Soil mixes, fertilizers, grow lights, self-watering pots, humidifiers, and pest treatments are tested in Scarlett’s own collection before they’re recommended. Products and brands are mentioned only when they’ve produced measurable results across multiple growing seasons.

- Depth over volume. Every care guide is 1,500–2,500 words minimum. We would rather publish one thorough article than three thin ones.
- Verified pet safety. All toxicity claims are cross-checked with the ASPCA toxic plant database. If we aren’t certain a plant is safe, we say so.
- Annual updates. Articles are refreshed at least once per year with current-year revisions, new internal links, and updated product recommendations.
- Human-edited only. We do not publish raw AI-generated content. Every article is written, fact-checked, and edited by Scarlett before it goes live.
- No sponsored content without disclosure. If a post includes affiliate links or sponsored products, it is clearly labeled.
Why ClassyPlants Exists
Most plant care content online falls into one of two traps: it’s either too generic to solve real problems (“water when dry” doesn’t help anyone), or it’s so technical that beginners feel overwhelmed. ClassyPlants sits in the middle deep enough to actually fix your drooping peace lily, simple enough that you can act on it in the next ten minutes.
Scarlett started this site because her friends kept sending her the same panicked messages: My pothos is yellowing. My succulent is mushy. Is this plant going to kill my cat? She realized that if her friends needed better answers, thousands of other beginners did too.
